Scott Schmidt, MD is director of hand surgery in the department of plastic surgery at Rhode Island Hospital and chief of plastic surgery at Providence VA Medical Center. He is board certified in plastic surgery and has a certificate of added qualification in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr. Schmidt received his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, and completed his residency at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, followed by a combined hand surgery fellowship at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut.
He has a special interest in peripheral nerve injury, hand trauma, and scar and burn injuries. His special expertise includes nerve decompressions such as carpal tunnel surgery; tendon injury treatment; muscle/tendon pain or overuse, including trigger finger release; and spastic disorder treatment using Botox and tendon transfers/releases.
Dr. Schmidt is also actively involved in clinical research and has been a volunteer on several pediatric burn mission trips.
