Diagnosing Kidney Stones

For your convenience, all diagnostic testing can be performed at the Kidney Stone Center.

Most often, ultrasound is effective in accurately diagnosing kidney stones and pinpointing their location. The test provides immediate information without the use of radiation.

Other diagnostic tools include:

• Non-contrast computerized tomography (CT)
• Low-dose CT scan (when applicable)
• Assessment of hormone, calcium and vitamin D levels (responsible for controlling levels of calcium in the body)
• Assessment of urine samples to determine whether there is a genetic component
