Emily McDonald, PhD

Emily McDonald, PhD is an instructor (research) in pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. Her primary concern is the impact of infectious diseases on pregnancy and maternal-fetal health and her recent work has focused on the impact of schistosomiasis on the trophoblast cells of the placenta, as well as its implications for the health of the developing infant during pregnancy. 

McDonald's current research interests include studying how inflammatory agents can impact nutrient transport and metabolic parameters of the placenta, the immune response to infections at the maternal-fetal interface, and the interactions between maternal infectious diseases and the placental microbiome.
