Lifespan Physician Group

Lifespan Chaperone Policy

Lifespan is committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment for our patients. We understand that some exams and procedures are more sensitive than others and we want to ensure our patients are as comfortable as possible.

A sensitive exam or procedure includes, but is not limited to, an exam, evaluation, or exposure of reproductive organs or sexual anatomy such as the pelvic, testicular, rectal, or breast area.

A care team member is present to assist during all sensitive exams and procedures. This care team member is a chaperone who helps, reassures, and supports you; and assists the provider as necessary.

FAQs

Can I ask for a chaperone for non-sensitive exams?

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any examination. Patients are advised to ask for a chaperone at the time of booking an appointment or upon arrival.

Must I have a chaperone?

You can decline a chaperone, but the provider may feel one is necessary. In that case you may still decline but the exam may not be able to go ahead as scheduled.

Can a family member or support person be present during my exam?

You may always request a family member or support person accompany you. However, they cannot act as a chaperone.
