Melany Gomes (she/her), MSN, CNM, is a certified nurse midwife with Lifespan Physician Group, Obstetrics and Gynecology Services. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Providence College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rhode Island College, and a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in midwifery from Frontier Nursing University.
Melany is first generation Cape Verdean. Her dreams of becoming a midwife started as a young girl when she heard the stories of her grandmother attending births back in Cape Verde.
Melany is passionate about equity in healthcare, especially in improving Black Maternal Health outcomes. Professional focus areas include supporting physiological birth, protecting reproductive rights, and promoting access to quality perinatal healthcare. Melany is a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives.
When Melany is not working, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family and walking her rescue dog, Mazie.
