Oleksii Semeniuk, PhD

Medical Physicist

Oleksii Semeniuk, PhD, is a medical physicist at Rhode Island Hospital. He also is an assistant professor of radiation oncology and clinician educator at The Warren Albert Medical School of Brown University.

Dr. Semeniuk has presented at numerous conferences and collaborated on medical research published in academic journals.

Prior to joining Lifespan and Brown University’s residency program, he completed a radiation oncology physics residency through the University of Toronto’s program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Center in Toronto, Ontario.

He earned a master’s degree in condensed matter and optical physics and a doctoral degree in chemistry and material science from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. In addition, Oleksii completed the postdoctoral Program and Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) accredited certificate program in medical physics at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada.

He is a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

Research Interests

  • Development of the first amorphous PbO-based direct conversion X-ray medical imaging detector prototype
  • Investigation of poly- and a-PbO photoconductors for application in direct conversion X-ray medical imaging detectors
  • Measured transport properties of poly-PbO to establish its suitability for direct conversion detector applications
  • Development of a liquid-crystal-based mammography technology
