Nurse Practitioner

Erica Spano, NP, FNP-C, a decorated Air Force veteran with extensive clinical experience, is a nurse practitioner with the Norman Prince Spine Institute. She is part of a team caring for patients, providing referrals for procedures, and participating in ongoing research in the neurosurgery department.

Previously, Spano worked as a pre-operative nurse at Duke Same-Day Surgery Clinic and a staff nurse at Duke Private Diagnostic Clinic: Mohs Micrographic Surgery, where she assisted a Mohs surgeon with 16 surgeries daily, in addition to other nursing duties. As an active-duty Air Force flight nurse from 2014 to 2019, she traveled internationally, transporting patients to various medical facilities for higher levels of care.

Spano is an active Air Force reservist and a member of Sigma Theta Tau. She is certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support by the American Heart Association.

She earned a master’s degree in nursing from Simmons University’s specialized family nurse practitioner program and a master’s degree in nursing from South University in Savannah, Georgia.
