Iole Ribizzi-Akhtar, MD

Oncologist

Iole Ribizzi-Akhtar, MD, is a board-certified oncologist with the Lifespan Cancer Institute at The Miriam Hospital and an assistant professor of clinical medicine at The Warren Alpert School of Medicine of Brown University.

Prior to joining the Lifespan Cancer Institute, Dr. Ribizzi-Akhtar worked as an attending hematologist oncologist and clinical educator at the Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and as an attending hematologist and oncologist at Kent Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island.

She has collaborated on medical research published in academic journals. Her main interest is head and neck cancer particularly in the context of clinical trials of new therapies.

She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine with The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, a medical oncology fellowship at the University of Genova in Italy, a clinical pharmacology fellowship at Rhode Island Hospital, and a hematology and oncology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts.

She earned a medical degree from the University of Genova Medical School.

Dr. Ribizzi-Akhtar is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Hematology.
