John K. Czerwein Jr., MD, is a board-certified spine surgeon with the Lifespan Orthopedics Institute and a clinical assistant professor of orthopedics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is the director of the spine department at our Lady of Fatima hospital and the chief of orthopedics at Landmark Medical Center.

He earned his medical degree at the Chicago Medical School in North Chicago. 

Dr. Czerwein served his orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein University in Bronx, New York, followed by an orthopedic spine fellowship at University Orthopedics/ Alpert Medical School.

He specializes in treating adolescents and adults for disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, using conservative therapies as well as surgery. Dr. Czerwein has particular expertise in minimally invasive surgical procedures.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the North America Spine Society. He is a native Rhode Islander.

Dr. Czerwein has contributed several papers to the scientific literature and has made numerous presentations about conditions and surgical treatment of the spine.
