Leah Jean McDonald, MD

Leah McDonald, MD, is a palliative medicine physician in the emergency department at The Miriam Hospital. Dr. McDonald has served as a hospice and palliative physician at Hope Health in Providence, Rhode Island, where she completed a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. It was during this experience that she developed a keen interest in the value of the sensitive, yet necessary, end-of-life conversation with patients often had in the emergency department. 

Dr. McDonald completed her residency in emergency medicine at New York University / Bellevue Hospital Emergency Medicine. She earned a medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. 

As a clinical physician, Dr. McDonald has worked with Brown Emergency Medicine and at Falmouth Hospital, located on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

Dr. McDonald is a member of several professional organizations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
