Lindsay Orchowski, PhD

Psychologist

Lindsay M. Orchowski, PhD, is a staff psychologist in the department of psychiatry and behavioral health within Lifespan Physicians Group, and associate professor of research and deputy Title IX coordinator at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is also director of research development for the adult branch of the department of psychiatry and behavioral health at Lifespan, and co-director of the Research to Practice and Policy Core of the Rhode Island Hospital Injury Control Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). 

Dr. Orchowski completed her PhD in clinical psychology at Ohio University in the Laboratory for the Study and Prevention of Sexual Assault; completed her psychology residency at Brown University; and completed a NIAAA T32 fellowship at the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies at Brown University. She also completed a one-year investigator-funded research fellowship at Brown University addressing sexual health, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV. Her research program focuses on advancing the development and evaluation of sexual assault prevention programs. 

She is a community-engaged researcher, with a focus on implementation and dissemination science. Her work also broadly focuses on engaging individuals in proactive helping behavior to prevent injury and harm in their community. Her research is supported by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Defense and the Department of Education. She is associate editor for Psychology of Women Quarterly, and is senior consulting editor for Psychology of Violence. In 2018, she published the co-edited book, Sexual Assault Risk Reduction and Resistance: Theory Research and Practice, and in 2022 she published the co-edited book, Engaging Boys and Men in Sexual Assault Prevention: Theory, Research and Practice.

She serves as a research mentor for residents and fellows within the Brown University academic medical school system.
