Michael Punsoni, MD

Neuropathologist, Director of Autopsy Services and Ophthalmic Pathology

Michael Punsoni, MD, is a neuropathologist with expertise in the diagnosis of brain and spinal cord tumors, neurodegenerative disease including a wide variety of dementias, muscle and nerve disorders, and ocular pathology. He is the director of autopsy services and ophthalmic pathology at Rhode Island and The Miriam hospitals. 

Dr. Punsoni is an active educator supervising residents and fellows in the pathology and neuropathology training programs at Rhode Island Hospital and teaching medical students at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. 

His clinical research interests include investigating the pathobiology of brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases. 

Dr. Punsoni received his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship at New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, a residency at NYU Langone Hospital Long Island, and a fellowship in neuropathology at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital.

He serves on several national committees and is an active member of the American Association of Neuropathologists. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and neuropathology.
