Philip Schmitt, MD

Philip Schmitt, MD, is a multiple board-certified psychiatrist, specializing in adult psychiatry and addiction medicine. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and completed his post-doctoral training at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, in Washington, D.C., and at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served as chief resident. He brings decades of experience in behavioral health, seeing both child and adult patients. Before joining Newport Psychiatry and the Lifespan Physician Group, Dr. Schmitt practiced most recently at the Carolinas Health Care System Blue Ridge, in Morganton, North Carolina. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
