Preston Douglas, MD, is clinical director of  Newport Neurology at Newport Hospital, and is a board-certified neurologist and neurophysiologist. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio, and completed his residency in adult neurology at the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, where he served as chief resident during his final year of training. On the basis of his work during residency, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. Dr. Douglas completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology with Brown Neurology at Rhode Island Hospital and has published on the topic of doctor-patient communication. He has practiced at Newport Hospital since 2019.

Dr. Douglas is a comprehensive general neurologist and evaluates and manages all manner of neurologic disease. Areas of special interest and expertise include epilepsy and EEG, neuropathy and electromyography (NCS/EMG), stroke and vascular neurology, Parkinson’s disease and tremors, Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and chronic migraine including treatment with Botox. In addition to his outpatient clinic, Dr. Douglas is a consulting neurologist for the emergency department and inpatient wards of Newport Hospital and works closely with the infusion center at Newport Hospital to offer advanced immunomodulatory therapies. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).

Dr. Douglas is proud to serve as the clinical director of neurology at Newport Hospital, as well as secretary/treasurer of the Newport Hospital Medical Staff Association and as co-chair of the clinical quality and safety committee for Newport Hospital. He also serves as Vice President of the Rhode Island Neurological Society (RINS). Dr. Douglas was selected as a “Healthcare Hero” in 2025 by Providence Business News for his implementation of a new “Neurology E-consult” service line to improve access to subspecialty care, as well as for his work in expanding inpatient teleneurology and EEG monitoring services at Newport Hospital. He was previously honored as Newport Hospital’s “Provider of the Quarter” in the first quarter of 2021.
