Pediatric Critical Care Services
Critical Care Services at Hasbro Children's Hospital
The physicians and staff of the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admit and treat critically ill infants, children, and teenagers/young adults.
Our pediatric intensive care unit has state-of-the-art design, organization, and equipment, and is staffed by specially trained physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, and a broad-based team of professionals with expertise in the care of critically ill children. The PICU includes two suites of eight rooms each, located around a central nursing station. Each child has his or her own fully monitored and specialized room.
Parents and/or guardians of children in PICU are welcome to stay at the bedside as much as possible, are encouraged to participate in morning rounds and may remain with their child for most procedures. Interpretive services are available 24 hours a day. PICU family areas include a kitchenette, bathroom with shower, and a comfortable lounge.
All our attending physicians are board certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care, and staff the PICU 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to our pediatric critical care physicians, we have board-certified pediatric surgeons for trauma critical care with expertise in specific elements of surgical critical care.
Referring doctors at other hospitals can contact our transport team by calling 401-444-3000.
