Pediatric Hospitalist Program

A pediatric hospitalist is a pediatrician who specializes in caring for hospitalized patients who do not have a physician, or whose primary care physician prefers to have an on-site medical team in charge of coordinating care. The pediatric hospitalist team at Hasbro Children's Hospital is part of inpatient medicine in the department of pediatrics.

The pediatric hospitalist leads a comprehensive team including interns, residents, medical students, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, social workers and nurses. They strive to provide excellent care supported by evidence-based medicine while fostering a supportive learning environment.

The hospitalist is available throughout the day to take care of patients and is familiar with the specialists and departments in the hospital.

Once a patient leaves the hospital, care will be taken over by the child's regular pediatrician or family practice doctor. The hospitalist will communicate important information to the child's doctor regarding his or her hospital stay. Follow-up care will be done by the patient's primary care physician, or another outpatient doctor.

The pediatric hospitalist service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
