Cancer Care and COVID-19

Safety is our top priority.

We want to assure you that the we are here for you. While the coronavirus has changed much of our daily lives, one thing that has remained constant is our commitment to providing you with the best, safest care possible.

At the Lifespan Cancer Institute, your safety is our top priority. As experts in cancer, we also know completing a treatment plan is associated with the best outcomes for patients. That is why we worked closely with our infection prevention and infectious diseases teams to be able to provide the care you need in a safe environment.

Compassionate Care for Thoracic Malignancies

The Thoracic Multidisciplinary Clinic is a program of the Lifespan Cancer Institute. Our clinic is the only one of its kind in the state entirely dedicated to the compassionate care of patients with thoracic malignancies. Our team-based approach brings together nationally recognized leaders and care specialists from multiple departments in the comprehensive treatment and research of these diseases.

Unique, Comprehensive Approach

At diagnosis, patients come in for one visit to see physicians and specialists from multiple disciplines, which may include surgical oncology, medical oncology, diagnostic imaging, pulmonary and critical care medicine, radiation oncology, palliative care, social work, psychiatry, nutrition, nursing, and complementary therapies such as acupuncture and massage therapy.

After this initial visit, our team meets with the patient to present a recommended plan of care. Patients also benefit from the services of a skilled nurse practitioner and an experienced, compassionate nurse navigator who assist patients and families with all aspects of their diagnosis and treatment.

Nationally Certified and Accredited

Our program is certified by the American Society of Clinical Oncology's Quality Oncology Practice Initiative and accredited by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer.

Rick Devin's Story

Rick creates what he calls “devinicals,” small, one-of-a-kind fabric sculptures, portraying animals as different roles or characters, complete with clothing, accessories, and props. He also creates paintings and multimedia projects, often using found objects.

It is precisely this unique ability to see art in the objects – and animals – around us, and to find the humor in the realism of life that helped Rick through his fight against cancer.
