Michael Mello, MD is an emergency medicine physician practicing at The Miriam Hospital and is director of the Injury Prevention Center (IPC) at Rhode Island Hospital. Also contributing to this article is Zoë Gilbard, a Brown University senior with a double-concentration in Public Health and History of Medicine, and a current research assistant in the IPC. She hopes to pursue clinical medicine and public health research.
