Chrystal Vergara-Lopez, PhD

Research Scientist and Psychologist

Chrystal Vergara-Lopez, PhD, is a clinical psychologist with both the Integrated Behavioral Health Program at Coastal Medical Women’s Medicine Collaborative Primary Care and the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation program at Bradley Hospital.

Dr. Vergara-Lopez serves as a clinical supervisor for the women and family medicine rotation through the Brown Clinical Psychology Internship. She holds an academic appointment as assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a research scientist in the Center for Behavioral and Preventative Medicine at The Miriam Hospital.

Her program of research focuses on elucidating novel cognitive, biological, and contextual mechanisms that underlie mental health and substance use problems. Her research has been funded by the Brain and Behavior Foundation, National Institute of General Medical Sciences, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. 

Dr. Vergara-Lopez earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University at Buffalo. She completed a clinical residency at Rutgers University in adolescent/ women/Latina mental health, and a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)-funded post-doctoral fellowship at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Dr. Vergara-Lopez is fluent in Spanish.
