Child Psychiatric Emergency Services

Hasbro Children's Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Services

Psychiatry Emergency Services (PES) at Hasbro Children’s Hospital provides emergency psychiatric evaluation and crisis management for adolescents and children, linking children and families to treatment programs for needed follow-up care.

All emergencies are seen by experienced clinicians and discussed with or seen by a child psychiatrist.

This service runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffing includes psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, master's level psychology clinicians, psychiatry residents and fellows.

Bradley Hospital Crisis Service

The Crisis Service program at Bradley Hospital is for children and adolescents who have no current mental health provider and an urgent need to be seen for a psychiatric evaluation and crisis stabilization following an emergency department visit.

The program is for children who are unable to wait more than 48 hours for an evaluation and may require more treatment than can be offered in an outpatient setting. Crisis service patients must first be admitted to the Hasbro Children’s Hospital emergency department, where an emergency physician will determine whether they need a psychiatric evaluation and coordinate with the child psych team for a referral.

Clinicians provide evaluation of children and their families within 48 hours of contacting the hospital. Children and adolescents are seen by a multidisciplinary team that includes a child and adolescent psychiatrist, a senior clinical psychologist, and trainees. This service helps to stabilize children and families in crisis and connect them to the mental health services they need.
