The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is now collaborating with Rhode Island College to offer a bachelor of science degree in medical imaging with a concentration in diagnostic medical sonography. The BS in medical imaging is a 4-year program consisting of 2 and 1/2 years of general education and cognate courses taken at Rhode Island College followed by a 1 and 1/2 years of clinical education at Rhode Island Hospital.
Clinical education takes place at Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital. Rhode Island Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and is a major teaching hospital for Brown University Medical School. Students will work in the hospital with physicians, radiology professionals and other members of the health care team.
Students who successfully complete the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program are awarded a certificate from the Lifespan School of Medical Imaging and are then eligible to apply for the national certification examinations offered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
