Mammography Program at the Lifespan School of Medical Imaging

Mammography is a specialized X-ray imaging method used in the early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Many mammography patients come in for routine screening exams, while others may need a diagnostic workup, biopsy, or preoperative procedure.

What Is a Mammography Technologist?

The mammography technologist is an essential part of the healthcare team. The mammography technologist is responsible for obtaining high quality diagnostic images that help physicians detect breast cancer and other breast diseases in their earliest stages, while providing the patient with the highest level of patient care.

Our Mission and Goals

The mammography program at the Lifespan School of Medical Imaging offers students a 16-week asynchronous, online course, which satisfies the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) mammography structured education requirement. Students are offered the opportunity to complete the required clinical experience at a Lifespan facility, where they will be immersed and learn each facet of mammographic breast imaging.

4. Students will have the skills necessary to provide appropriate patient care and comfort.  
5. The program will provide qualified mammographers to meet the health care needs of the community.
