Keon Starnes was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease at the age of 2. As an adult, he was one of the first patients to be seen in the Lifespan Cancer Institute’s Sickle Cell Disease Multidisciplinary Clinic when it opened in 2018. Earlier this summer, Keon was honored to be throwing out the first pitch, with his wife and three daughters joining him, to “shine the light” on Sickle Cell Disease at a recent Pawtucket Red Sox game. “Shine the light” is a national initiative to bring attention to Sickle Cell and celebrate the 10th anniversary of World Sickle Cell Awareness Day.
