RI Hospital Critical Care Units Families and Patient Information

Being in the hospital can be stressful for families and loved ones. This is especially true for the intensive care unit. Although we cannot know exactly how you feel, we do care, so please let us know how we can support you.

Patient information

We ask that each family designate a point person who can relay information between the medical staff and other family members, and who will call the unit to check a patient's condition. Critical care staff is available to speak with various family members as well. Patient confidentiality is always respected.

Emotional support

Probably the hardest thing about having a loved one in the critical care unit is the emotional roller coaster, one day may bring sadness, and the next day may be full of hope. It is important that you share your feelings with the staff, family, friends or other visitors. Our staff also includes social workers and chaplains who are available to help during this critical time.

If at any time you have questions, please feel free to ask the staff. It is our goal to provide the best possible care and support that is needed during this stressful time.
