Lifespan Cancer Institute
About the Lifespan Cancer Institute
The Lifespan Cancer Institute at Rhode Island, The Miriam, Newport and Hasbro Children's hospitals provides the most current cancer diagnosis and treatment options. Our world-renowned physicians and specialists form multidisciplinary teams, both in the hospitals and at the Lifespan Ambulatory Care Centers in East Greenwich and Lincoln. Their collective level of knowledge and experience is unparalleled in the region.
Additional experts–including nurses, nurse navigators, pharmacists, social workers, and nutritionists–work with patients and their families to ensure complete care from diagnosis through recovery.
The Lifespan Cancer Institute is certified as a quality oncology practice by the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
An Emerging Approach for Treatment
After decades of research in cancer treatment, physicians and researchers are touting the benefits of a new defense against cancer. Precision medicine is a personalized and targeted approach for disease treatment and prevention. It takes into account the individual variability in genes, environment and lifestyle for each patient.
Two notable areas of precision medicine that we have integrated into our practice are immunotherapy and molecularly targeted treatment. The Lifespan Cancer Institute currently has a number of investigational studies to further explore these treatments. Our efforts focus on accelerating the progress of research by developing the right strategies and giving our patients the best possible outcomes through the latest treatments.
Research and Clinical Trials
Lifespan Cancer Institute provides the latest protocols and access to groundbreaking immuno-therapies and emerging cancer treatments.
Benedito Carneiro, MD, leads clinical trials with novel treatments for cancers.
Dr. Carneiro gives a video tour of the clinical trials program.
Our physicians actively participate in the Brown University Oncology Group, a unique regional clinical trials network that provides highly innovative approaches to cancer care.
