The PediPRN Intensive Program (PIP) was developed to meet a need identified by the enrolled pediatric primary care providers to provide an in-depth training in child mental health topics. PIP will enroll 16 providers from 16 unique practices for the 10-session certificate program. The goal is to create a group of practitioners embedded in each of their home practices who will serve as local experts. This will not replace the availability of PediPRN for all enrolled participants, but instead will enhance the local expertise and competence with more challenging mental health problems that this subset is motivated to treat.
Course Topics
The course will cover topics that the pediatric primary care providers have identified as areas of interest for more in-depth training.
These may include but not be limited to such topics as:
- How to conceptualize a behavioral health case
- Crisis management
- Psychiatric levels of care and systems of care
- Anxiety
- Depression
- ADHD
- Developmental disorder
- Behavioral disorders
- Substance use
- Sleep disorders
- Collaboration with schools
Based on the applications of the enrolled participants, we will work to tailor the curriculum to the needs and interests of those providers. The program will provide CMEs for all sessions and will make all classes available online to the full PediPRN community.
Facilitator
The sessions will be facilitated by Elizabeth Brannan, MD. Dr. Brannan completed combined training in psychiatry and pediatrics through the Triple Board Program at Brown University. She is an attending psychiatrist in the Intensive Program for OCD and Related Disorders at Bradley Hospital. She is also an assistant professor in the clinical educator track at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Dr. Brannan is co-director of the first-year medical student Brain Sciences Course, co-director of the longitudinal third year medical student Integration Seminar, and supervises and lectures for the child and adolescent psychiatry fellows and Triple Board residents.
In addition to Dr. Brannan, there will be additional presenters/discussants for each session with expertise in the monthly topic.
About the Course
The projected start date for PediPRN Intensive Program is March 28, 2020. The first session is a half-day introduction for participants to learn about the PIP curriculum and the mental health services continuum of care for children and adolescents. The PediPRN Intensive Program will continue with nine sessions (1.5 hours each) on Wednesdays (4:30-6 p.m.) once per month. Participants must attend the initial session and may only have one previously excused absence to successfully complete the program.
The sessions are scheduled as follows:
- Kick-off: Saturday, March 28, 2020
- Wednesdays (4:30-6 p.m.): April 22; May 13; June 17; July 15; August 19; September 16; October 28; November 18; and December 16
