Ambulance arriving at Rhode Island Hospital
The Burn Center at Rhode Island Hospital is the only accredited burn center in the state.

Firefighter Volunteer Program

Firefighters have an opportunity to volunteer one or two hours of their time each Thursday at the Outpatient Burn Clinic and spend time with pediatric patients. Volunteers must be firefighters to participate and those interested can call 401-606-4120 or email [email protected] to register.

All new volunteers must contact the outpatient burn clinic for sign-up date and directions. Please come approximately 30 minutes early to the hospital to obtain a volunteer badge. The badge allows for up to eight hours of volunteering, which does not need to be consecutive.

Burn Center Verification

Verification of burn centers is a joint program of the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Verification is a strict review of a burn center's ability to provide optimal care to burn patients from the time of injury through rehabilitation. Elements required for verification include an in-depth site review by the verification committee and members of the ABA. A written report of the site visit is then reviewed by the ABA verification committee and the ACS Committee on Trauma. Verification provides a true mark of distinction for a burn center. Learn more about verification (ameriburn.org).
