Newport Hospital’s Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund

More than 30 local programs that serve youth across Aquidneck Island have received grants from Newport Hospital’s Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund. In total, the fund awarded $188,500 to 31 organizations to support initiatives that help children lead healthier lives through physical activity, education, and healthy choices. Among the recipients are six programs to be awarded funds for the first time.

The “Powered by Prince” grants range from $1,200 to $13,000 and will support a wide range of initiatives that include boxing, surfing, bicycle lessons, basketball camp, healthy cooking classes, scouting, unified sports, sailing, and more. This year, the fund awarded $38,500 more than in 2024.

“Investing in the well-being of our youth is not just a commitment to better health, it’s a commitment to a stronger, more vibrant community,” said Nicholas Dominick, Interim President, Newport Hospital, and SVP, Clinical Services, Brown University Health. “We believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow up with the resources and support they need to thrive, and we are honored to help play a role in that journey.”

The Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund at Newport Hospital was established in 2010 when Elizabeth Prince of Newport and her children – Diana Oehrli, Guillaume de Ramel, and Regis de Ramel – donated $3 million to the hospital to fund healthy activities for underserved children in Newport County. With this year’s grants, the fund has now awarded more than $1.4 million in grant funding since its inception.

"Here on Aquidneck Island, we have so many wonderful organizations helping our children grow in body, mind, and spirit,” said Diana Oehrli. “We are proud to support programs that help kids thrive, and we're thankful and honored to partner with Newport Hospital.”
