Volunteer Opportunities at Hasbro Children's Hospital

Please note: The volunteer program for Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children's hospital is fully staffed at this time. Updates will be posted here in spring 2021. Please call 401-444-5530 with any questions.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school. Day, evening and weekend placements are available. Volunteers must be able to commit to 100 hours of service.

Volunteer Information Guide

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to view the information guide and then apply online.

Our volunteers are college students, retirees, working professionals, individuals considering a career change or returning to the work force, and individuals with a special skill or talent.

Volunteers work in the following areas:

  • Art Program
  • Emergency Department
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Oncology
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Pediatric Playrooms
  • Reading Programs
  • Waiting Rooms


At Hasbro Children's Hospital, volunteers must:

  • Attend a one-hour information session
  • Submit a complete application and obtain two references
  • Interview with volunteer services staff
  • Provide an updated immunization record
  • Submit to two tuberculosis tests
  • Complete an orientation about hospital policies and procedures
  • Commit to a minimum of two to four hours each week for at least 100 hours
  • Adhere to uniform and dress code policy
  • Provide a $12 uniform payment
  • Complete a criminal background investigation authorization form (provided by Lifespan volunteer services)
