Shared Governance at The Miriam Hospital
What is Shared Governance?
Shared governance is shared leadership, participative decision-making, and an organizational framework that gives nurses at all levels a voice in the decisions that affect patients, patient care, and the professional practice environment.
These are decisions about clinical practice standards, quality improvement, innovation and research, and professional development.

The Professional Practice Model is continually evaluated through such measures as nurse satisfaction and nurse-sensitive patient outcomes.
Councils and Shared Governance
Nurses participate in shared governance primarily through shared governance councils and committees (view The Miriam Hospital Shared Governance Structure - PDF). Councils are co-chaired by clinical nurses. Council membership by nurses at all levels of the organization is encouraged, welcomed, and supported.
