Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) Study
Are you the caregiver of a child with atopic dermatitis (eczema)?
Hasbro Children’s Hospital is currently inviting children between 8 and 12 years old with atopic dermatitis (also called eczema) to participate in a research study called “Multilevel Contributing Factors in Ethnic and Racial Disparities in Urban Children with Eczema.”
Researchers wish to learn more about how children’s eczema affects sleep behaviors and patterns of sleep, and how this may be different in different races or ethnicities.

Who Can Participate?
You may be able to participate if:
- Your child has been diagnosed with eczema by a doctor
- Your child is between the ages of 8 and 12 years old
- You and your child speak English
- You identify as African American, Latino, or Non-Latino White
What Does It Mean to Participate?
Taking part in this study involves one session at our research office, one session over the phone, and one in your home (or by phone/Zoom for social distancing).
Children will use a watch that measures sleep daily over 14 days. Children and parents are asked to fill out a daily sleep and eczema diary at home for 14 days. There will be one blood draw.
During the study, children and caregivers will answer questions about their child’s eczema symptoms and sleep. Families will be compensated for their participation.
Why Should You Participate?
Learning how different factors affect sleep and eczema may help us to develop more effective programs to help sleep in children with eczema in the future.
Participation is voluntary; your decision to participate is completely up to you. When you call, we will give you all the information you need and answer any questions you may have.
You are not obligated to sign up, and if you do, you are always welcome to discontinue at any time. Your decision will never affect any treatment or services that you receive.
