Genetic Counseling

The Prenatal Diagnosis Center (PDC) offers expectant parents the option of genetic counseling. Genetic counseling may be helpful to you if you have a known genetic disorder, there are diseases that run in your family, you take medication or a test in your pregnancy has indicated your baby might have a birth defect.

Our highly trained counselors, all with master’s degrees in clinical genetics, begin by discussing your family history and any concerns you may have. They will explain all available tests, screenings and procedures, along with the associated benefits, limitations and risks. If you choose to have genetic testing, they will discuss the results with you and help you understand your options.

Our counselors understand that these are very sensitive and often difficult discussions. They are here to give you information and answers without judgment, and to encourage you to ask questions and speak openly about your thoughts and wishes. It is important that you be the one to decide what is best for you.
