Pediatric Mental and Behavioral Health Services at Lifespan

Lifespan offers a wide range of programs, services and research for psychological, developmental and behavioral conditions in children and adolescents.

Our Major Inpatient Programs

Child and Adolescent Inpatient Programs at Bradley Hospital are for children ages 2 to 18 who suffer from serious disorders and need short-term stabilization assessment and treatment.

Children’s Residential Programs at Bradley Hospital and Gateway Healthcare are for patients experiencing crisis intervention, long-term treatment, and care for severe emotional disturbance. Treatment is also offered for sexually and physically abused youth.  

Medical Psychiatric Program at Hasbro Children’s Hospital addresses the needs of children and adolescents, ages 6 to 18, who are struggling with both psychiatric and medical illness. It is the only program in the region designed to provide family-based integrated care for this population. Inpatient and partial hospital levels of care are available.

Our Major Outpatient Programs

Child Psychiatric Emergency and Crisis Services at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Bradley Hospital provide emergency psychiatric evaluation and crisis stabilization for adolescents and children.

Child and Adolescent Partial Hospital Programs at Bradley Hospital offer practical alternatives to hospitalization and traditional outpatient services for kids with serious emotional, behavioral or relationship issues. The intensive programs preserve the child's home placement while offering children and their families the opportunity to work on emotional and social difficulties.

Outpatient Services  care teams at Bradley Hospital, Newport Hospital and Gateway Healthcare provide comprehensive mental health evaluation and treatment for children, adolescents and families from Rhode Island and southern New England.

Adolescent Substance Use Specialty Team at Gateway Healthcare works with youth who are experiencing difficulties with substance use and behavioral health issues. The program works within the context of the adolescent’s social environment.

Autism Spectrum Disorders Connections program offers a specialized team to help with special education, occupational therapy, and behavior therapy to children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities at Bradley Hospital offers unique and highly specialized clinical services for children and adolescents who show signs of serious emotional and behavioral problems in addition to a developmental disability, such as autism, Asperger's or intellectual disability.

COAST Clinic at Bradley Hospital offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children and adolescents who have difficulty participating in age-appropriate activities due to physical, neurological, cognitive, behavioral, communication or sensory processing challenges.

Early Childhood Treatment Programs at Bradley Hospital and Gateway Healthcare specialize in attachment and early development, infant and family observation, early assessment and care, identifying disorders in infancy, and strategies for intervention with parent and child.

Child and Family Community Treatment Program at Gateway Healthcare provides psychiatric evaluation, case management and intensive family and individual therapy for children who suffer from emotional/behavioral or substance use issues.

Intensive Program for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) at Bradley Hospital provides treatment to children and adolescents, ages 5 to 18, who experience significant impairment in their lives due to OCD and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders.

Outpatient Group Therapy Programs at Bradley Hospital include a range of evidence-based group therapy programs for children, teens and parents, from building social skills in elementary school age children to using cognitive behavior therapy to help teens overcome anxiety

Mindful Teen Program at Bradley Hospital offers a six-month outpatient treatment program for adolescents who are 13 to 18 years old (attending grades 8 to 12) and who display signs of suicidality, nonsuicidal self-injury, or other self-destructive behaviors.

SafeQuest Program at Bradley Hospital is an intensive after-school program for adolescents who are at risk for self-harm and/or who are suffering from significant mood or anxiety disorders.
