Phototherapy

About Phototherapy

Phototherapy utilizes ultraviolet (UV) light, a type of light that is found in sunlight, under medical supervision to treat certain skin conditions. Generally, two types of ultraviolet rays are used – ultraviolet A rays (UVA) and ultraviolet B rays (UVB). Treatment can also be given in combination with other topical therapies.

Phototherapy is delivered for several seconds to several minutes per treatment, usually two to three times per week. Phototherapy can be given to a specific area of your body or to your entire body, depending on the extent of your skin condition. The goal of all phototherapy treatment is to substantially improve patients’ skin conditions and in some cases, achieve near remission.
