Courses Offered by the Lifespan Community Training Center

Financial Literacy - The DollarWise course is designed to help the participant manage money more wisely. Topics will include budgeting, checking accounts, and credit. Participants will walk away with worksheets to help them manage their finances in the future. The sessions are presented by Coastway Community Bank and led by a financial educator. This is a free class.

Healthwise – This course is designed to help students make informed decisions regarding their health. An instructor will assist students to navigate through a complimentary resource book filled with common health problems that will help students get the right care at the right time. This is a free class.

Hands Only CPR (CPR without Certification) – This is a class to teach life-saving skills for an adult, child or infant. It will discuss automated external defibrillator (AED) use, compressions and relief for a choking victim. This is not a certified class. This is a free class.

Heartsaver AED (CPR with Certification) – This is a DVD-driven course to teach life-saving skills for an adult, child or infant, automated external defibrillator (AED) use and relief of choking. A resource book will be provided and the participant will receive a 2-year certification card upon successful completion. Please call for cost.

Heartsaver First Aid – This is a DVD-driven course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn a variety of skills in first aid emergencies. A resource book will be provided and the participant will receive a 2-year certification card upon successful completion. Safe SitterTeaches children 11  to 14 years old infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), infant and child choking rescue, first aid, how to manage emergencies, babysitting as a business, injury prevention and management, behavior management, safety for the sitter, and child care essentials. Please call for cost. Scholarships may be available.

Food Is Medicine – This six-week class teaches participants how to prepare affordable and nutritious meals in order to improve their diet, all on a limited budget. Participants will learn how to decrease their risk of obesity and related chronic diseases, because food is medicine! This is a free course.

Incredible Years Parenting Classes –This is a proven effective program that builds positive parenting strategies and assists parents in managing young children’s behavior, ultimately reducing early onset behavior problems and preventing adolescent delinquency, substance abuse, and violence. This is a free course.

Parenting Matters Conference and Workshops– The half-day conference offers a keynote speaker and more than 20 workshops to provide attendees practical information about raising children and teens. Speakers are all experts on child development, behavioral health, or related topics. The evening workshops cover similar content with a single speaker who speaks in depth on a topic of interest. Please call for cost. Scholarships may be available.

Temas Familiares – This half-day conference, delivered completely in Spanish, provides workshops and resources for Spanish-speaking residents about parenting, mental health and health concerns impacting their children. This is a free conference.

CPR trainings are in accordance with the American Heart Association Guidelines.

Please call 401-444-8009 to register for a class. All classes require pre-registration. A non-refundable payment is required for all certified classes. Class size is limited and may need to be cancelled due to low enrollment or weather conditions. Rescheduling or reimbursement of payment will be allowed under these circumstances.
